Residents and visitors in Maine are invited to explore the "other sides" of Camden, Damariscotta, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Bath, Hallowell, Bar Harbor and Rockland during lantern lit walking tours of historic sites and ghostly haunts. The walks will be led by "The Lady in the Red Cloak," who will be clad in period clothing of the late 1800's.
Participants will be taken through back streets to hear tales of local hauntings and the history behind them. Buildings that once seemed ordinary will take on eerie new dimensions as "The Lady in the Red Cloak" relives their history and that of the ghostly entities that are said to still reside there.
The walks will be short enough in distance for anyone to enjoy, limited to the in-town areas and lasting approximately 90 minutes. Content of the tours is suitable for all ages. Even in those small areas, there is plenty of ghostly activity afoot, according to Sally Lobkowicz, director of Haunted History Tours.
"These towns are filled with both hauntings and the history that goes with them," Lobkowicz said. "Some of the hauntings are fairly well known, but most of them will be a surprise."
Lobkowicz, an experienced genealogy researcher, began looking into local ghost stories after hearing tales from in-town residents and businesspeople. "I discovered that there are quite a lot of buildings that people feel are haunted in each of these towns, and some of the stories are quite chilling," she said. "There are also plenty of interesting historic tales to recall."
Red Cloak Haunted History Tours explores each town on a variable schedule (please see Schedule section). Our seasonal schedule begins in May and ends October 30th. Adjustments in the routes may be made to accommodate elderly or disabled guests. Special tours may be arranged upon request by contacting Sally Lobkowicz at 207-380-3806 or contact us.
